3-4 June - Porto
Arrived at Frankfurt airport on my way to Porto. The airport is a hub airport with planes going all over Europe and the world. Thank goodness I had booked my luggage through to Porto. Going through security was long and the search very thorough, feeling every crevice in my body. The security check at OR Tambo was poor in comparison, the lady even read a brochure when she should have been looking at the X-rays. The airport has many people all rushing somewhere or other.
Bought toothpaste and toothbrush at a delicatessen to get a fresh feeling. Lufthansa did not provide socks or toothpaste, etc. In the past you were not permitted to take them on the plane, now it must obviously be permitted.
Nearly missed my flight to Porto. My boarding ticket issued in Johannesburg said A23 but when I went to board at the correct time, the plane was going to Paris. Spoke to the official, and had to go to gate B19. Now on my way to Porto. The land below looks full of towns, fields, forests, and wind turbines.
Took a shuttle bus 602 from the airport to the old town centre where I am staying in the Poets Hostel. Clean dormitory with 4 beds.
Went out and saw the Igreja dos Carmelitas and the next-door Igreja do Carmo with the beautiful tiled wall and old chairs inside.

Went up a tower for a view of the city
Saw a pharmacy with healing herbs
